Use of Ozone in Commercial and Industrial Indoor Environments

Ozone gas is a powerful purifier and sanitiser for environments and surfaces. A lack of ventilation, airborne organic matter and the client’s own industrial activity contribute to contamination of both surfaces and the environment, leading to the build-up of unpleasant odours, viruses and pathogens that compromise the quality of the final product.

Ozone quickly disinfects and eliminates odours in rooms, on surfaces and from fabrics in industrial settings, hotels, hospitals, vehicles, trains, aeroplanes, gyms, offices, etc...

Ozone cannot be used in the presence of people; therefore, we will carry out environmental shock treatments without people present.

Ozone generator for the disinfection of indoor spaces

Disinfecting indoor spaces with ozone in commercial and industrial settings, particularly in the agri-food industry, enables effective control of cross-contamination on surfaces and the presence of aerobic bacteria, yeasts, moulds and fungi. Ozone acts as a powerful oxidising agent capable of eliminating microorganisms and improving air quality within the premises.

The use of ozone for environmental disinfection is particularly effective against pathogens such as Listeria and Salmonella, reducing health risks and ensuring high levels of food safety. Furthermore, it eliminates persistent odours without leaving any residue, unlike traditional chemical disinfectants.

The use of ozone for the disinfection of surfaces and environments prevents the generation of unwanted chemical residues, optimises treatment times and enables faster and more efficient processes, even in environments with demanding operational requirements.

The deployment of ozone disinfection systems in industrial and commercial indoor spaces improves the overall hygiene of the premises, reduces operating costs and contributes to a more sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly solution.

Advantages of environmental ozone treatments

cold store cabling system

Guaranteed disinfection

Ozone has far greater disinfecting power than any other chemical. With a professional ozone system in your business or industrial premises, you will achieve a sanitised environment free from unpleasant odours. No need to store chemicals.

Process safety

Ozone treatments are carried out automatically and without the presence of people. The dose of ozone injected is analysed and the readings are recorded to ensure the treatments are effective. Once the treatment is complete, the ozone dissipates naturally.

Industrial cold stores

Reduced use of chemicals

The use of ozone to disinfect rooms and surfaces eliminates the need for any other chemicals, resulting in significant cost savings and no environmental impact.

No manual labour, fully automatic

The system automatically generates and injects ozone into the tank, without the need for manual labour. It simply needs to be connected to the tank and a power socket.

No storage of chemicals

Ozone is generated on-site and applied immediately, so it does not require the storage or handling of chemicals, eliminates the need for transport and reduces the carbon footprint.

Biocide recognised by ECHA

Ozone is included on the European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) list of biocides, and ZonoSistem holds all the necessary documentation for its proper authorisation and use

ZonoSistem Case Studies in Environmental Ozone Treatments

Disinfection of warehouses using shock treatment

Raw material warehouses – specifically those storing food packaging – undergo shock ozonisation with ozone gas directly in the receiving area. Before proceeding to subsequent stages, the material is disinfected, thereby reducing the risk of infection and cross-contamination. The system is fully automated. A specific ozone dose, contact time and rapid ozone removal are guaranteed before staff are allowed access. The entire process is recorded on a master PLC linked to the quality department.

Ozone generator for disinfecting rooms and surfaces

Ozone generation technology for environments and surfaces, offering comprehensive, automated disinfection that reaches places manual methods cannot. Thanks to its powerful oxidising capacity, this system eliminates airborne pathogens and settles in every nook and cranny of surfaces without leaving any chemical traces or residues. A PLC system records the values achieved and ensures safety before people are allowed access. This project includes several rooms with volumes exceeding 1,000 m³.

Ozone generators for air and industrial surface disinfection

Surgical disinfection achieved through real-time monitoring using high-precision sensors. Our equipment incorporates programmable logic controllers that regulate O₃ production based on ambient concentration (ppm), ensuring that the levels required for pathogen inactivation are achieved without exceeding safety limits.

System for distributing ozone to various points

The ozone system designed for this project includes an ozone distribution panel, from which ozone is distributed to each room to be disinfected. The process is carried out automatically by means of solenoid distribution valves.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Use of Ozone for Environmental Ozone Treatments

Ozone is a highly effective oxidising agent capable of eliminating bacteria, viruses, fungi and odours in the air and on surfaces. In commercial and industrial settings, it enables spaces to be thoroughly sanitised, reaching hard-to-access areas that other methods cannot, such as ventilation ducts, textiles or hard-to-reach corners.

Ozone in shock treatments is applied in high doses but for very short periods; in other words, shock treatments do not promote the oxidation of materials. The least resistant materials belong to the elastomer and rubber families, which are used in some door seals. The remaining materials are generally resistant to oxidative disinfection processes, as high-quality materials are used in the food industry.

Yes, provided it is used in a controlled manner and in accordance with safety recommendations. Ozone treatments are usually carried out when no people are present or using systems designed to maintain safe concentrations. Once the treatment is complete, the ozone rapidly breaks down into oxygen, leaving no chemical residues, which means the space can be reused within a short time.
